Colstrip, Montana (MT)             a perspective of this coal-mining town

This town was founded as a company town for the Northern Pacific Railway in the early 1920's.  Colstrip provided coal for the steam-driven engines of that time.  The Montana Power Company purchased the mine and the town in 1959, and Colstrip's coal reserves were used to fuel their coal-fired power plants.  I can remember Colstrip as as a small Montana town in the 1950's.  The town has grown considerably the past years.

Food and lodging facilities are available.
