The northeast corner of Montana during the months of June, July and August from Opheim, Scobey, and Plentywood to the country towns of Antelope, Medicine Lake, Homestead, Froid and McCabe, Montana there are ripening fields of wheat and other grains. The grain has differing stages during the ripening. Generally, in June, you can view the green, not mature grain rippling in the breeze. In July, the changing of the colors begins, and in August, the maturing golden grain ripples in the breeze. It is an enjoyable sight to view during those months. After August, or maybe the first week, or second week, of September, you will see only stubble fields of the cut grain, then comes the winter with its accompanying snow, but spring does come again and planting season begins a new cycle. Much of eastern Montana have the rippling fields of grain, but this northeast corner seems special. While in Scobey, visit the Pioneer Town and Museum. The museum is generally open Memorial Day - Labor Day, and at Plenty wood, the Sheridan County Museum which is open during the summer only.
