Ancient Fossils of Northeast Montana Hell Creek State Park ... a journey...
...an Eastern Montana perspective
The drive to Hell Creek State Park, and it's fossil beds, is a journey through the Heartland of Eastern Montana (TM). During the journey you will view spectacular badland scenery as your trip extends west from Circle, Montana, home of the McCone County Museum, if that is your route, and on to Jordan, Montana. The prairie grassland surrounding Jordan and it's Garfield County Museum gives a pleasant rural drive. Hell Creek is 25 miles north of Jordan located on the south shore of Fort Peck Lake, and is within the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. Enjoy most water sports, fishing and camping. There are Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops fossil beds in the area. This journey to Hell Creek is open year around, and the park has camping sites. It is best that you do some research before the journey regarding general conditions and site availability. There is a camp site cost if you wish to camp... The Dept. of Fish, Wildlife & Parks contact phone number and email address as listed on this site will be able to help you. In addition, the above mentioned museums are open seasonally so you need to do some verification regarding availability.
