Jordan was founded by Arthur Jordan. He had brought his family here to settle in 1896. Later after a few more residents arrived, they petitioned for a Post Office. In 1899 the petition was granted, it was given the name of Jordan.
Being on a "short-list" of towns in the area when Garfield County was created, Jordan was designated as its county seat.
The Charles M. Russell Wildlife Refuge is a few miles to the north, and its Hell Creek Recreation Area provides access to Fort Peck Lake and its water sports and fishing opportunities. The area is noted for its dinosaur fossils.
The Garfield County Museum in Jordan has fossil exhibits and has information about the history of the area. It is a seasonal museum so you need to verify its schedule.....
If you want to visit an area that has an expanse of surrounding rangeland, and remains a rural down-to-earth area, Jordan is the place. The town has good eating places, and it has available lodging.
