Sidney, Montana (MT)    a perspective of  Eastern Montana's  "Sunrise City"...

Montana's Sunrise City, Sidney, and its' country neighbor Fairview, Montana, are close to Fort Union, Fort Buford, the historic Snowden Bridge, and of course, the western border of the great state of North Dakota, ... and there is a whole-lot of fishing available to the enthusiast.  Anglers here find walleye, northern pike, catfish and ling among the more than 40 fish varieties inhabiting the border waterways of eastern Montana and North Dakota.  The exotic paddlefish, a fish that dates back to prehistoric times, is a challenge for visitors and locals.  The paddlefish is found only in the Lower Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers of eastern Montana and western North Dakota, or in the Yangtze River in China.

The town of Sidney goes back to 1888, when the town was named after the six year old son of a Mr. and Mrs. Walters, who resided in the home of Hiram Otis, Justice of the Peace.  It was Judge Otis who drew-up the official papers for a post office on the new town site when it was noted that a name had not been chosen for the town.  Judge Otis thought of young Sidney and chose the name for the town so that the post office could be established.  The town was incorporated in 1911 and based on the 2000 census, it is the 16th largest in the State of Montana.

You need to visit the MonDak Heritage Museum.  You will enjoy the experience.  This museum is large for the area, and, in the opinion of the author of this web site, the most sophisticated in eastern Montana.  The museum is open February to December.  It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  During the summer the hours are extended 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Camping, food and lodging facilities are available.
